What causes fascination. Perhaps it is our inherent curiosity of the unknown. Why then, do we often marvel at the most mundane of phenomena. Wherein lies the secret to this sensation of phenomenal wonder the ability to perceive the ordinary with a unique sensual acuity. I cannot claim to have this aforementioned acuity, but I have endeavored on many occasions to hunt for the intriguing in what is plain to experience ‘phenomenal wonder’. There are experiences which do not require acuity to fascinate us the mystical.
What do you think about your neighbours. How do you feel about your schools. What do you think about your community. Community has always been a big part of our lives and it has been here since the day we were born. We might even live on the same street, but we grow up in different households and this results in many different views on communities. The many definitions of our community may include our home, our heritage, and even our religion. First, community is our “home.” We have been living in a community ever since we were just little babies and it has always influenced us.
As emergency management leaders for the 21st century, we need to develop new risk assessment and management models to factor in the “unthinkable” globally impacting ‘black swam’ type events, using satellite imagery, and all the other technology and resources available to better enable us to forecast and plan for these type of events, with the view to minimize their impacts. These technologies should be globally linked, like a global warning system similar to a Tsunami early warning system. According to Mileti there several things that can be done to facilitate this paradigm shift in thinking in leadership in emergency management.

The Differing Reactions of the British Public to the Policy of Evacuating Children During the Second World War Evacuation was a voluntary scheme formed during the Second World War. The British public responded to this scheme in many different ways which varied from positive reactions to negative reactions. Throughout my essay I will cover the differing reactions of the British public when evacuation was formed. This will consist of parents/family responses (including parents of evacuees and reception families) and children’s reactions (including children that were either hosts or evacuees).
Descartes’ Cogito It is the purpose of this essay to examine both Descartes’ Cogito argument and his skepticism towards small and universal elements, as well as the implications these arguments have on each other. First, I will summarize and explain the skepticism Descartes’ brings to bear on small and universal elements in his first meditation. Second, I will summarize and explain the Cogito argument, Descartes’ famous “I think, therefore I am” (it should be noted that this famous implication is not actually something ever said or written by Descartes, but instead, an implication taken from his argument for his own existence).
J. D. Salinger Biographer Ian Hamilton notes that J. D. Salinger has been notoriously "famous for not wanting to be famous" (4). Born in New York in 1919 and still living today, Salinger leads a rather reclusive lifestyle, choosing to avoid the general attentions of the press, and thus making his life a difficult subject for study. His work, however, has been cherished and studied for many years. He has published many works of fiction both in book form and in magazines such as the New Yorker and Esquire.

Martin Luther grew up in a time when there was basically one religion to look upon. Luther was born on November 10, 1483, in Eisleben, Germany. He was raised Catholic by his family that was held together by his father, Hans. Hans was a miner, and he worked his way up to the middle class by leasing mines and furnaces. With the money that he earned, he bought his family a house, and he became a wellrespected citizen of their new hometown, Mansfeld. At seven years old, Martin began his schooling to fill his father’s dream of becoming a lawyer.

A few people were inside as the doom came closer. Preacher Tom was the first one in the church to sees what would haunt the town and was scared out of his wits. 1984 Truth In George Orwell’s “1984” society is manipulated and guided by an organization called the Party and an anonymous figure named Big Brother, who is used as God. One of the main aspects the Party controls is truth or tries to control is truths in the society and the truth in the minds of the individual themselves. The Party creates what they want to be true to make the individuals ignorant so they can manipulate them easier. This twist of the truth by the Party makes it seem like truth doesn’t actually exist, but for Winston it does exist or it once did.

In Machiavelli, The Prince, the underlying theme of obtaining political status by means of invasion, coercion, heredity and luck is portrayed throughout the text in various chapters. The main emphasis in a stable, selfgoverning society or state is to obtain a higher political status by any means necessary. There are many political strategies of obtaining fortune but the outcome solely depends on the circumstances and the approach towards this goal. The decisions made by man incorporated with favourable uncontrollable events and the foresight of catastrophes once combined or on its own would aid in the protection of a successful political authority.
Imagine attempting to expose a highly cautious serial killer who could be anyone living anywhere in the country. In Agatha Christie’s ABC Murders, Hercule Poirot has this exact task placed upon him. A murderer, who only kills in alphabetical order, is on the loose, and Poirot, along with his partner and the police squad, is charged with the case. After a few consecutive murders, clues began to be found as to who “ABC” actually is. A surprising plot twist occurs at the end which has the reader questioning how Monsieur Poirot eventually discovered this careful killer.
